Harsh reaction from Özgür Özel to the appointment of a trustee to Halk TV: 'The nation will win'

Police teams entered Halk TV's headquarters in Istanbul in the early hours of the morning. While the broadcast of the channel was stopped following the raid, Halk TV Chairman of the Board Cafer Mahiroğlu announced that a trustee was appointed.

NEW Party Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to the police raid on Halk TV and the statement that a trustee was appointed.

Stating that they are in solidarity with Halk TV employees, Özel evaluated the events in terms of press freedom and the will of the nation.

ÖZEL: “POLICE RAID AT DAWN AND APPOINTED A TRUSTEE…”

Making a statement on his social media account, Özel criticized the raid on the television channel in the morning and the appointment of a trustee.

In his statement, Özel also drew attention to the economic crisis, financial difficulties and injustices and said:

"A police raid on a television channel at dawn and appointing trustees is something only dictators can do. Unfortunately, they brought our country to this situation.

While the nation demands accountability for the fund theft... While the economic crisis, the struggle to make ends meet, and injustice continue all over our country...

They did this on the very day when the defense was to begin in Turkey's biggest political case. Those who appointed trustees to municipalities and subjugated the will of the nation have now appointed trustees to Halk TV, which is watched by millions.

Because they are POWERFUL and COWARDS! We stand by Halk TV, press freedom, the hundreds of workers working there and their families.

Those who think that they can discipline politics with the judiciary, journalism with law enforcement, and the will of the nation with trustees are in the biggest mistake in history. Türkiye will defeat this evil.

We invite our people to support this struggle until the end. The nation will win, the coup plotters and tutelaries WILL BE DEFEATED!”
