The Poznań Palm House will be closed for the duration of modernization

The Poznań Palm House has been operating since 1911. Today, in ten pavilions you can see about 1,100 species of exotic plants. The last major renovation of the facility was carried out in 1982–1992.

At the end of August, the contractor will take over the construction site, and from September 1, the palm house will be closed to visitors. The modernization will be carried out in stages. The first renovated pavilions, located on the side of ul. Matejki, are to be made available to the public at the end of 2028. All works should be completed in 2030.

The changes will be very broad. The glass in the pavilions will be replaced, and visitors will have new paths at height, thanks to which they will be able to view the plants from a different perspective. The following will also be rebuilt: main entrance, cafe, administrative rooms and facilities.

In the fall and winter, the contractor will mainly deal with the entrance area, cafe and administration area. The glass structures of the pavilions will be demolished in spring and summer so as not to expose the plants to low temperatures. Before starting these works, the plants will be properly secured by the palm house employees.

The new glass is intended to provide plants with more natural light and at the same time reduce energy consumption. This will make maintaining the facility cheaper in the future.

After modernization, the palm house will also offer new attractions. They will include suspended paths leading to an observation deck and a small amphitheater, which will be used both for rest and for organizing educational activities. The aquarium will also be rebuilt. Large tanks will feature, among others, larger species of river fish from South America.

The modernization will also include the installation of central heating and the installation of automatic systems controlling ventilation, shading and lighting. The area around the palm house will be redeveloped, using solutions that help retain water.
