The party leaders' answers about climate goals differ from the electoral compass

Before the election, millions of Swedes used SVT's election compass to find out which party best matches their views.

It says that the Moderates think it is a "pretty good proposal" that Sweden should have more ambitious climate goals than the rest of the EU.

"It is good that Sweden can also inspire others," they write in the electoral compass.

But when the party leaders get the same question in SVT's final debate, Ulf Kristersson (M) votes no to the same proposal.

- That we should have more? So the EU is the entire basis for climate policy, that's where we make a difference, he answers the question about why he changed his mind.

- There has been a one-sidedness in Swedish climate policy which basically came down to one thing: raise the fuel prices to such maximum high levels that you cannot afford to use the car.

Even S answers differently

It is not only the Moderates who give a different answer about the climate goals in the final debate.

The Social Democrats think in SVT's election compass that it is a "rather bad proposal" that Sweden should have more ambitious climate goals than the rest of the EU.

But in the final debate, Magdalena Andersson (S) votes yes to the same proposal.

- The EU is the foundation, but all the parties recently agreed that we should maintain the Swedish goals in terms of transport, for example. The Moderates were also involved in that, she says.
