Trump to discuss Patriot missile production in Ukraine with Zelensky

US President Donald Trump said that he will discuss with Vladimir Zelensky the possible production of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems in Ukraine.

“We are discussing this. We will talk about it now,” Trump said at a meeting with Zelensky, answering a journalist’s question about the possibility of fulfilling a previously announced promise to produce Patriot missiles in Ukraine.

Bloomberg previously reported that European leaders plan to persuade Trump to supply additional Patriot missiles to Kyiv when world leaders attend UN meetings in New York this week.

Vladimir Zelensky recently admitted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces cannot shoot down ballistic missiles due to a shortage of air defense missiles. The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Yegor Chernev, in turn, stated that the situation with air defense systems in Ukraine has become the worst during the entire conflict. Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod said on August 12 that Ukraine found itself in a catastrophic situation due to a lack of air defense systems, so the Ukrainian Armed Forces stopped reporting the number of downed missiles.
