Pınar Sevim's Family Reacts to the Discretionary Reduction Applied to the Defendant

Pınar Olmaz, who lived in Siverek district of Şanlıurfa, died suspiciously as a result of a gunshot wound after arguing with Rıdvan Olmaz, to whom she was married, in his car on February 22, 2024.

While Siverek 2nd High Criminal Court sentenced Olmaz to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional murder", it later commuted the sentence to life imprisonment with a reduction.

SEVİM'S FAMILY SPOKE TO CUMHURİYET

After the Court of Appeal approved the decision in June, the file was moved to the Supreme Court. Pınar Sevim's family, waiting for the decision from the Supreme Court, spoke to Cumhuriyet.

Erdal Sevim, Pınar Sevim's older brother, reacted to the discretionary reduction applied to the life imprisonment sentence given to the defendant in the case regarding his brother's death.

Stating that the local court first sentenced the defendant to aggravated life imprisonment and then applied a reduction within the scope of Article 62 of the Turkish Penal Code, Sevim said, "If this person caused the destruction of a life, a life, a family, what is the reason for the discretionary reduction? Why was justice left unfinished?" he said.

Stating that the file is at the Supreme Court of Appeals, Sevim stated that they requested that the defendant be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment without any reduction.

Sevim stated that there were also allegations of obscuring evidence after the incident and that no investigation was carried out against these people.

Sevim said, "The people who obscured the evidence and arranged false witnesses were not taken into consideration and ignored anyway. No investigation was opened regarding them."

'Aggravated life imprisonment for the act'

Stating that, as Pınar Sevim's family, they wanted the defendant to be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment without any reduction from the beginning, Sevim said, "The equivalent of this act in the Turkish Penal Code should be aggravated life imprisonment. While there is such a law, the stance or clothing style and behavior of a person in the courtroom who ignores this law and ends a person's life should not overshadow this action."

Stating that the file was moved to appeal after the local court's decision and the appeal approved the decision, Sevim said that the file is currently at the Supreme Court.
