Pnrr, the target of 60 thousand new beds for university housing has been exceeded

The target of 60 thousand new beds established by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr) for university housing has been exceeded. A total of over 63,200 beds have been activated through the Housing Plan of the Ministry of University and Research, exceeding by approximately 3,200 units the objective of 60 thousand set by the Pnrr. The additional posts compared to the target will be financed with national resources made available by the Mur at the request of Minister Anna Maria Bernini. Thanks to this increase, the supply of accommodation for university students has more than doubled compared to that available at the start of the Plan. This was announced by the Ministry of University and Research.

The first 33 thousand beds have already been created and will be available for students, who will be able to access them through the regional bodies for the right to study or according to merit criteria, by contacting the managers of the residences. For the additional approximately 30 thousand beds, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, which manages the second tranche of the tender on behalf of the Mur, has completed the signing of all the mandatory documents. The new accommodations will be available, in the same way, in 2027.

"We have achieved a strategic objective of the Pnrr, an ambitious goal to concretely increase the supply of university accommodation. Today - declares Minister Anna Maria Bernini - we can say that that target has not only been achieved, but exceeded. It is the result of enormous work, built together with the Extraordinary Commissioner Manuela Manenti, and of the collaboration between institutions, public and private subjects who have chosen to invest in university housing. An extraordinary effort which has allowed us to reverse a paradigm: going from the creation of 40 thousand beds in 20 years, to 60 thousand in three; from 2 thousand beds per year to 20 thousand".

"But the value of this result - continues Minister Bernini - goes beyond the numbers. Every new bed means strengthening the right to study by giving a girl or boy an extra possibility: choosing the university they want, even far from home, without the cost of living becoming an obstacle".
