School, 37,430 job placements completed by August 31st

Before the start of the 2026/2027 school year, the Ministry of Education and Merit carried out, by 31 August, all the appointments of teachers in common positions, in support and for the teaching of the Catholic religion, for a total of 37,430. At the same date, last school year, there were 29,685 job placements.

The hiring carried out by the regional lists, established for the first time this year, with a specific rule, also contributed to achieving this result.

The places not assigned to the permanent list, however, concern courses whose rankings have been exhausted.

As of 31 August, almost all of the substitute positions had also been filled, equal to approximately 118 thousand positions. Furthermore, on the same date, 55,814 substitutes in support positions were confirmed, at the request of families, almost 10 thousand more than in 2025/2026.

All teachers hired on permanent and fixed-term contracts have been in service since 1 September 2026.

Furthermore, 342 school managers were appointed for vacant positions in the various Regions, also in service from 1 September 2026.

The hiring of 12,284 ATA personnel is also nearing completion.

The timing of the operations, which allowed all the interested staff to take up their duties already at the destination schools, allows full participation in all the planning, coordination and training activities taking place in these days at the educational institutions and will guarantee the presence of all teachers in the classroom from the start of the lessons.

"The new year starts with all teachers in the classroom. For the second consecutive year we have completed the hiring operations before the start of the school year, ensuring the presence of all teachers in the classroom from the first day of school. It is an important result to guarantee teaching continuity and the correct functioning of the institutes, in the interest of every student", said the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara.
