The police intervenes against MP Dariusz Matecki when he tries to enter the premises of the Academy of Justice

As RMF FM reporter Krzysztof Zasada found out, the officers convinced the MP to leave the university premises and opened the gate for him, through which Dariusz Matecki went outside. Earlier, law enforcement officers had unsuccessfully warned him not to break the law and not to try to enter the fenced area.

The MP warned the police not to block him because he had immunity and his bodily integrity could not be violated.

According to the information obtained by our journalist, the police will initiate proceedings against the parliamentarian under Article 193 of the Penal Code, which provides for violation of domestic privacy. The penalty for this is one year in prison.

What is the cause of the dispute?

A sharp conflict regarding the Academy has been going on for several days. PiS MPs do not agree with the decision of the Minister of Justice, who changed the management of the university.

Zbigniew Bogucki, the head of the Chancellery of the President, met on Friday with the current rector of AWS, Michał Sopiński. He assessed that "the attack on the Academy of Justice is another attempt by the government to illegally influence the independence of the institution."

"In accordance with generally applicable law, the university Senate has the exclusive jurisdiction and competence to appoint and dismiss the Rector of the Academy. (...) Despite these obvious legal norms, Mr. Żurek decided to dismiss the Rector without a legal basis in a procedure prohibited by the Act itself - the Law on Higher Education," Bogucki wrote on the X platform.

Already in May, the Ministry of Justice indicated three main reasons for Sopiński's dismissal: serious irregularities in doctoral thesis work, demonstrative political activity and a threat to the proper probation process. The ministry emphasized that the decision was made after obtaining positive opinions from the Central Council of Science and Higher Education and the Conference of Rectors of Polish Academic Schools.

From the beginning, Sopiński questioned the legality of the decision, citing the security of the Constitutional Tribunal and the lack of formal delivery of documents. The ministry denied these allegations, emphasizing that the procedures had been followed.

Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek expects the Academy Senate to present a schedule for the election of a new rector-commandant within 14 days.
