Porsche is reportedly planning to discontinue the Taycan electric car by 2030

Even though Porsche has long been hardly associated with e-mobility, the company is trying. It will be presented in 2019, and great hopes will be placed on the model when it goes public three years later. But they are far underperformed. According to a report, the end is sealed.

According to information from “Wirtschaftswoche”, the sports car manufacturer Porsche is planning to discontinue its electric model Taycan by 2030 at the latest. According to insiders, there was initially talk of moving production to the Porsche factory in Leipzig. Taycan production at the main plant in Stuttgart was significantly underutilized. Alternatively, a quick adjustment of the model was examined. Ultimately, the decision was made to phase it out - but over several years until 2030 at the latest. Until then, production should remain in Stuttgart. There is an agreement about this with the works council, which has not yet been recorded in writing, according to the newspaper.

Porsche boss Michael Leiters did not make a clear statement in an interview with the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" at the end of July: "In the short term, we are not planning to discontinue the Taycan. We have invested a lot in the model and want to monitor how demand develops." Porsche has currently not commented on the planned setting by 2030.

According to “Wirtschaftswoche”, the Taycan is the electric flagship of the Porsche brand and is said to have been an example of the planned electrification of the model range when the company went public in 2022. By 2030, according to the plan at the time, 80 percent of Porsches sold should be purely electrically powered.

But the Taycan sold poorly after an initial surge. After almost 41,000 copies in 2023, sales fell to around 16,000 last year. In the first half of 2026, only a good 6,000 Porsche Taycans were sold. In recent months, production has been interrupted several times due to weak demand.
