Mayor of Tremedal threatens to cut basic food baskets for Lula voters

The mayor of Tremedal, a city located in the southwest of Bahia, Dr. Zé Bahia (Avante), threatened residents who voted for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), candidate for re-election, in this year's elections, that they would no longer receive basic food baskets distributed by the city hall.

The case happened on Thursday (10), at a political meeting with families from the Lagoa Preta district. The statement was recorded by people who were at the scene and went viral on social media.

In the recording, the mayor says that the measure would be adopted if the Workers' Party had a significant vote in the municipality.

In 2022, Lula was the most voted candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in Tremedal. He received 78.57% of the valid votes in the municipality, while Jair Bolsonaro (PL) had 21.43%.

He also mentioned his wife, Dagmar Leite, who holds the position of secretary of Social Development and Citizenship in the city, and said he would count on her support in the cut.

"These people who vote for Lula, I confess to you, I already told you. If we see that vote in Tremedal that is expressive of the PT, when we get there, Dagmar says the following: he will cut the basic food basket. Do you want to vote for Lula? So, cut it, and say that Lula cut it", says the mayor in the video.

g1 contacted Tremedal City Hall and the Avante party's communications department to ask for a position on the mayor's statements, but did not receive a response until the last update of this report.
