Imbituva City Hall releases names of 23 victims of accident between minibus and trailer in Paraná

The City Hall of Imbituva, in the central region of Paraná, released photos of the residents who died in the accident between a minibus and a trailer that left 23 people dead in the early hours of this Wednesday (19).

Everyone was in a minibus from the Municipal Health Department and had left the city of 30,800 inhabitants in the interior towards hospitals in Greater Curitiba.

Of all 27 occupants in the vehicle, only five survived: a 6-year-old child, a 26-year-old woman and three men, aged 22, 49 and 50. They were taken to Ponta Grossa for medical care. A man and a woman were discharged on Wednesday (19), and the other three patients remained hospitalized on Tuesday morning (20).

The accident also killed the driver of the truck. He was born in Castro, another city in the Campos Gerais region.

Imbituva City Hall provided a team of psychologists and a nursing team to offer reception, support and assistance to families.

The accident happened around 3:30 am on a stretch of single lanes at km 209 of the highway. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the truck was traveling unloaded in the direction of Carambeí to Prudentópolis, and the minibus from the Health Department was traveling taking patients from Imbituva to hospitals in Greater Curitiba. The corporation states that preliminary evidence indicates that the truck entered the opposite lane and collided head-on with the minibus.

The Government of Paraná declared three days of official mourning throughout the state due to the accident. The Governor of Paraná, Ratinho Junior, expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and stated that security forces are working to clarify the causes of the accident.
