Arrested in the early hours of this Monday (19) for firing a gun at a party in the Moema neighborhood, in the South Zone of São Paulo, state deputy Marcelo Aguiar (PL), 53 years old, is one of the members of the so-called 'evangelical bench' of the Legislative Assembly of the State of SP (Alesp).
Country gospel singer, he was elected councilor for the city of São Paulo for the first time in 2028, with 41,506 votes for the PSC party. Two years later, in 2010, he became a federal deputy with 98,842 votes, but in the following elections he was unable to return to federal parliament.
In the last election of 2022, he obtained 42,898 votes in the dispute for a state deputy seat in Alesp and was only a substitute. He only took up the position of state deputy in 2025, after businessman Helinho Zanatta (PSD) was elected mayor of the city of Piracicaba, in the interior of SP, in 2024.
Since taking up his position at Alesp, in January 2025, Aguiar has had a discreet role in the São Paulo parliament, despite being a member of the Constitution, Justice and Writing Committee (CCJ), one of the most important at Alesp.
Aguiar only joined the PL on March 16, 2026, at an event held in São Paulo. The affiliation was made official by the party and was attended by the party's national president, Valdemar Costa Neto, and other leaders.
In his public profile on Alesp, the deputy says that “he has built a career marked by his commitment to Christian values, the defense of the family and, especially, the protection of children and adolescents”.
"Before dedicating himself fully to politics, Marcelo had a prominent artistic career, with dozens of hits on the music charts. After his conversion to Christianity, he began to dedicate himself to contemporary Christian music, achieving great success on the country's main radio stations and in hundreds of thousands of churches throughout Brazil, where his music touched the hearts of believers in different parts of the country", states the Alesp profile.
Like Marcelo Theodoro de Aguiar's given name, the deputy states that he is an economist, public manager, married and father of two children.
Hours before his arrest in São Paulo, he participated in a campaign event for presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) on Avenida Paulista. Wearing a t-shirt from the act called ‘Bloco do 22’, Aguiar took photos with followers and friends, according to his Instagram account.
In the 1st round of the 2026 election, Marcelo Aguiar failed to win re-election for Alesp again. Despite running a double campaign, alongside pastor Marco Feliciano (PL), the singer only received 37,585 votes and is once again a substitute in São Paulo, starting in 2027.

According to witnesses, he was drunk at a club in the Itaim Bibi neighborhood and bothering people. After some confusion, he fell to the ground and accidentally fired a gun.
The deputy said he was under the influence of strong medications, which caused an adverse reaction, and ended up getting involved in an argument.
According to the report, the deputy has federal possession of the weapon, which was seized by the police for forensic examination. Aguiar was taken to the 14th DP in the Pinheiros neighborhood, but will not be arrested as he has political immunity. According to the Military Police, there are no reports of injuries.
The parliamentarian's car had an unauthorized Alesp license plate.
Representative Marcelo Aguiar's office informs that, regarding the episode that occurred last Sunday night, the parliamentarian was under the influence of strong medication, which caused an adverse reaction, and ended up getting involved in an argument.
At no point was the deputy arrested. He simply provided clarification at the police station and was subsequently released.
At this moment, the deputy is at home and will undergo a medical consultation. He reiterates that he trusts in Justice and is convinced that all the facts will be duly clarified at the appropriate time.
