Rescue operation launched after missing fisherman

The alarm came in at 12 o'clock on Saturday after an empty six-metre long fishing boat was observed with the engine running.

- A boat with the engine on is ominous, then if there is an explanation for it in some other way, I can't say anything about it at the moment, says police spokesperson Fredrik Svedemyr.

A mobile phone was found in the boat and was used to contact relatives, according to the Swedish Maritime Administration. The relatives must then have replied that they are missing a person who went out to fish during the day.

The effort includes, among others, the JRCC, the Maritime Police, the Maritime Rescue Society, the Coast Guard and the Maritime Administration's helicopter. The police are also searching the area with drones and dogs.

- We have started a search operation. It is very large, says Jonas Franzén, press spokesperson at the Swedish Maritime Administration.
