Ranucci would have anticipated to Lavitola the contents of an interview on carbon credit in Zimbabwe

On June 29, Sigfrido Ranucci, former host of the show Report, sent an email to Valter Lavitola, relating to an affair linked to the carbon credit sector in Zimbabwe. This is what Tg1 reports. The material could be acquired by prosecutors investigating the attack on the journalist which took place on 16 October 2025. According to what was reported by the Rai news, in the communication Ranucci anticipated to the fixer the contents of an interview given to the Zimbabwean newspaper The Standard. The article, published in English on 5 July and then removed from the site, referred to an alleged journalistic in-depth activity by Report regarding some Italian entrepreneurs active in the carbon credit market, who claim to have been defrauded by a local partner.

In the interview, again according to what was reported by Tg1, Ranucci claims to have spoken to an official of the Italian embassy in Zimbabwe. In the email addressed to Lavitola there would also appear a request for further information on a person defined as an alleged "braggart", data which would have been considered useful for the purposes of the journalistic investigation. The matter appears to be part of the corporate issues that have affected Lavitola and some of his partners in the African country in recent years. Through his lawyer, Roberto De Vita, Ranucci explained that the Report program had already dealt with the issue of carbon credits in the past and that journalistic interest in the matter would fall within the editorial team's ordinary in-depth analysis activity.
