Resende (RJ), is the fourth city in the state of Rio de Janeiro with the highest number of accidents involving venomous animals recorded in 2026. As of September 9, 79 cases were recorded in the municipality, according to data from the State Department of Health (SES-RJ).
According to the State Secretary of Health, 3,116 accidents were reported in the same period. The capital leads the survey, with 597 records, followed by Petrópolis, with 380, Rio das Ostras, with 101, and Resende, with 79. Nova Friburgo appears soon after, with 78 cases.
Among the accidents recorded throughout the state, 1,145 involved spiders, 660 scorpions and 465 snakes. The remaining cases are related to other types of venomous animals.
Given this scenario, the State Department of Health monitors accidents and environmental conditions that may favor contact between these animals and the population. Currently, the state has 33 serotherapy centers, distributed across the nine regions.
Where to find the serum in South Rio
In the South Fluminense and Costa Verde regions, there are twelve centers that provide serum used to treat accidents involving venomous animals. In case of a bite, the advice is to seek medical attention immediately and, whenever possible, look for the closest place that offers serotherapy. Precautions to avoid accidents
According to SES-RJ Environmental Surveillance, changes in climatic conditions can alter the behavior of venomous animals. Periods of heat, rain or drought can interfere with the search for food, reproduction and movement of these animals.
Environmental Surveillance recommends the population to keep backyards and areas close to houses clean, avoiding the accumulation of debris, leaves, wood and other materials that could serve as shelter. It is also recommended to keep trash well packed and check shoes, bedding and objects that have been left on the floor before using them.
In the event of an accident, the recommendation is to seek immediate medical attention. If possible, the animal can be photographed from a safe distance to help with identification, but you should not attempt to capture it.
In emergency situations, the advice is to call the Fire Department by calling 193.
