British bank Revolut confirms leak of customer data to scammers

LONDON, September 13 - RIA Novosti. British bank Revolut has confirmed the leak of customer data to scammers.

Earlier, blockchain researcher ZachXBT reported that Revolut transferred customer data on a fake request on behalf of a government agency.

"Revolut recently identified a shill scam in which an unauthorized third party used a legitimate government email address to send fraudulent requests for information," the bank told TechCrunch.

The company noted that the leak affected a “limited” number of customers, without specifying the number. The bank representative also did not disclose which government agency the scammers were hiding behind. The incident did not affect the bank's systems or customer funds.

According to the portal, the scammers got their hands on dates of birth, postal and email addresses, phone numbers, passport details, transaction history and selfies to verify the identity of clients.
