The head of Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation accused Ukraine on Sunday of attacking diesel fuel trucks, killing two Russian servicemen and deliberately jeopardising safety at the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine.

Alexei Likhachev said the attack took place on Friday and also resulted in injuries to other Russian soldiers.

The Zaporizhzhia plant, Europe’s largest with six reactors, was seized by Russian forces in the early weeks of the Ukraine war that broke out in February 2022. Each side has regularly accused the other of actions that endanger safety at the plant and increase the risk of a nuclear accident.

Likhachev issued a statement saying Ukrainian forces had launched “a series of combined strikes” on Friday on fuel trucks which deliver diesel to the station.

“The strikes hit very close to the perimeter of the station’s site,” he said.

“Two servicemen were killed and a large number of Russian soldiers were injured, some seriously. They were all involved in supporting this purely civilian mission.”

Open Questions

  • What is Ukraine's response to the allegation?
  • Were plant operations physically disrupted?

Lockheed Martin releases mysterious trailer hinting at progress of Vectis drone project

Lockheed Martin released a very short mysterious video on the social platform, showing the outline of a black aircraft with the text "Unlock the next level, stay tuned for more content." After comparison, the aviation media "The Aviationist" pointed out that the silhouette closely matches the collaborative combat aircraft Vectis developed by Skunk Works, indicating that the project may have new progress. Lockheed Martin unveiled Vectis for the first time in September 2025. It is positioned as a level 5 large-scale unmanned aerial system of the US military. It can cooperate with fifth-generation and next-generation manned fighters. It aims to make its first flight in 2027. It is powered by Williams International FJ44-4 turbofan engine.

Expert analysis: Taiwan's submarine Haikun will soon be capable of submarine-launched cruise missiles

The domestically built submarine Haikun is expected to be delivered this year, and subsequent ships will be built in a "2+3+2" model. The National Defense and Security Group, a Taiwanese think tank, recommends that follow-up ships should have submarine-launched missile capabilities to enhance combat capabilities. However, Ji Dongyun, chairman of the Taiwan Security Development Association, pointed out that the current Stegoryus-class submarines can only launch Harpoon anti-ship missiles. If they want to launch submarine-launched cruise missiles, the Chinese Academy of Sciences currently does not have this capability, unless the United States technology Technology transfer, otherwise Taiwan will not be able to achieve it within 10 years, or it may even take 20 years. Because this is an offensive weapon, it needs to be developed by itself first. Currently, Japan and South Korea do not have this capability in the Dosan class. However, South Korea's KSS-3 submarine has added a vertical launch system and self-developed cruise missiles, which may be a reference for Taiwan.
