NEW DELHI, September 24. /TASS/. Russia has offered India highly favorable terms for cooperation in the field of aircraft, including the Su-57 fighter jet, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov said at the Defcon 2026 security conference.
"Since India has embarked on its Atmanirbhar Bharat [Self-Reliant India - TASS] policy and is developing its own defense industrial base, we are offering not merely supplies but also joint production and joint development. We aim to have various types of aircraft and other defense equipment manufactured directly in India and tailored to Indian requirements. We have an open approach to this issue and, I believe, have offered the most favorable terms for such cooperation," he said.
"We are open to breakthrough defense projects such as the Su-57. We have been and remain India’s only reliable defense partner," Alipov noted, stressing that this includes both aircraft supplies and arrangements for local production or technology transfer.
The ambassador recalled that Russia was a pioneer in the joint production of defense products with India. "We were about a decade and a half ahead of the point when India formulated its concept of self-reliance in defense. The BrahMos project is a striking example. It was launched in 1998, and the first successful missile launch took place in 2001. We have already marked the 25th anniversary of that achievement. This is a clear and illustrative example of our cooperation," he said.
"We have been engaged in joint production and development for decades and continue to move in this direction, implementing numerous other projects," the diplomat stated.
Moscow previously expressed its readiness to cooperate with New Delhi on the Su-57E fifth-generation fighter jet project, including through joint production. As Alexander Mikheev, CEO of Rosoboronexport (part of Rostec state corporation), previously noted, the proposals include supplying ready-made aircraft, arranging their joint production in India, and assisting in the development of an Indian fifth-generation fighter jet.
