Allegations of Energy Grid Sabotage Increase in Germany as Russia Attacks Kiev

While the war launched by Russia against Ukraine continues, it is noteworthy that the Russian army has recently increased heavy attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kiev. Russia last targeted the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) building in Kiev yesterday. This is considered the most high-profile attack carried out by Russia in recent times. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported that a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) hit the headquarters of the Ukrainian Security Service in the center of Kiev. Zelenskiy stated that emergency teams were dispatched to the region after the attack. Kyiv administration noted that 5 people were injured in the incident.

Kyiv had been under intense attacks for a week. In his statement on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that his country and Ukraine should reach an agreement and that there is a chance for this, and said, "Ultimately, the problem must be resolved between the parties to the conflict."

On the other hand, Ukraine is also launching counter-attacks against Russian energy infrastructure. Russia's Krasnodar Region Operational Center reported that a fire broke out in an oil depot during the UAV attack on the city of Sochi.

Vigilance in Germany

While these are happening on the field, Europe's tensions with Russia, especially Germany, are rising. Europe has recently become the target of an ever-increasing sabotage campaign, and Russia is the prime suspect. Rising tensions between Russia and Europe are exceeding Cold War levels and are heading towards the point of getting out of control. Following the attempted UAV attack on Leipzig Airport in Germany, the police were on alert due to new sabotage allegations targeting electrical networks across the country.

According to reports in the German press, an attempt to cause a short circuit was detected in an energy facility in Dormagen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Following the incident, the police received a letter claiming responsibility for the action. On the other hand, a transformer station in the town of Ganderkesee in the north of the country was cordoned off due to suspicious circumstances. The previous night, a terminal at Berlin airport was evacuated after a woman said there was poisonous substance in her bag.

Following the emergence of the letter in which successive sabotage attempts and actions targeting energy networks across the country emerged, the security forces raised the alert level to the highest level. There have been two more major sabotage cases against the energy network in Germany since the beginning of the week.

'I don't think he will attack NATO'

US President Donald Trump, at a press conference at the White House, emphasized that he believes that Russia will not attack NATO countries, after being reminded that Germany "blamed Russia" for the drone attack on a German airport. Trump said, "I know him very well. Putin is not planning to attack NATO territory."
