Russian and German foreign ministers met for the first time in 4 years

During the meeting, held at the request of the German side, relations between Russia and Germany and the situation in Ukraine were discussed. Wadephul confirmed "the German government's repeatedly stated position on this and other issues."

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mariya Zaharova, in her statement on her social media account, stated that the German side requested that media access be restricted, opening speeches not be recorded and questions not be asked before the meeting between Lavrov and Wadephul.

Lavrov last met with former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on January 18, 2022.
