Heavy rains that have been effective in Sakarya for two days have caused floods and floods throughout the city. As Karaçay Stream reached its overflow point in Geyve district, a collapse occurred on the road next to the stream. In Karasu district, many houses, workplaces and agricultural lands were flooded due to the overflowing stream.
4 PEOPLE TRAPPED IN KARASU WERE RESCUE
A flood occurred in the Darıçayırı location of Karasu district due to excessive rainfall. Work has been initiated under the coordination of AFAD Presidency to evacuate citizens stranded in the region.
Coast Guard Diving Team (DEGAK-18) and Coast Guard Law Enforcement Support Team teams reached 4 people stranded due to the flood. Thanks to the work of the teams, the citizens were rescued in good health and taken to the safe area.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs thanked AFAD and Coast Guard teams while sharing images of the rescue efforts.
TRANSPORTATION ON THE STREETS IS PROVIDED BY TRACTORS AND BUCKETS
As a result of the overflow of the stream in Darıçayırı District, some houses, workplaces, agricultural lands and roads were flooded.
Darıçayırı Şehit Oktay Demirci Primary School, Darıçayırı Central Mosque and some houses and shops were also affected by flood waters.
Transportation on Vatan, Şehit Ersin Şenek, Mezarlık and Kurudere Taşlık streets is provided by tractors and work machines.
Cattle and a dog trapped in the barn due to rain were rescued by SASKİ and fire brigade teams with a scoop.
“WE ARE JUST WAITING FOR THE WATERS TO DRAW”
Headman of Darıçayırı District, Ahmet Demiral, stated that transportation in the neighborhood was provided by work machines and tractors due to the flood.
Demiral said that two families were stranded and the Coast Guard teams took these people from their homes with boats and took them to safe areas. Stating that the water has started to recede to some extent, Demiral said, "There are victims, but no one is stranded. We are just waiting for the water to recede, our wish is that it will not rain."
Demiral stated that water entered some houses and shops and AFAD teams will work to assess the damage.
THOUSANDS OF CHICKENS DIE
There was also a flood in Çıldırlar District of Akyazı district.
The coop with a capacity of 11 thousand chickens belonging to Hasan Kılıç was flooded. Despite the intervention of Kılıç and his relatives, it was reported that hundreds of chickens died due to the flood.
SUSPENSION OF EDUCATION IN 18 SCHOOLS IN 4 DISTRICTS
Due to heavy rain and floods, education was suspended for one day on Wednesday, September 30, in 18 schools in Akyazı, Erenler, Karapürçek and Karasu districts.
The schools where education was suspended are as follows:
Akyazı: Kuzuluk Akşemsettin Imam Hatip Secondary School, Kuzuluk Dr. Enver Ören Secondary School, Kuzuluk Primary School, Mehmet Soykan Primary School, Topçusırtı Anatolian Development Foundation Primary/Middle School and Yağcılar Primary School.
Erenler: Abdullah Esma Kocabıyık Primary/Middle School, Ali Dilmen Primary School, Ekinli Primary/Middle School, Erenler Secondary School, Hacı Mehmet Akkoç Secondary School, Şeyhköy Kindergarten, Çaybaşı Yeniköy Primary School and Yunus Çiloğlu Secondary School.
Karapürçek: Mehmet Akif Ersoy Multi-Program High School, Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Kindergarten and Şehit Mustafa Geyve Primary/Middle School.
Karasu: Şehit Oktay Demirci Primary/Middle School.
FLOOD AREA VIEWED WITH DRONE
On the other hand, Darıçayırı District, covered by flood waters as a result of the overflow of the Darıçayırı Stream, was viewed with a drone. In the images, it was seen that some roads and areas in the neighborhood were flooded.
In his statement on his social media account, Minister of Internal Affairs Mustafa Çiftçi expressed his wishes for a speedy recovery to the citizens affected by the flood and thanked the AFAD and Coast Guard teams who took part in the rescue efforts.
