The Municipal Health Department (Semus) is holding, this Saturday (7), the D-Day of anti-rabies vaccination for dogs and cats in São Luís. Immunization is free and will be available in more than 70 points spread across the capital (see the list below).
According to Semus, the goal is to vaccinate approximately 129 thousand animals. The mobilization is also scheduled for the 14th, 21st and 28th of November, with service in the capital's nine health districts.
To ensure safety during travel, the secretariat recommends that dogs be carried on a collar and guide. Cats must be transported in appropriate boxes or cages.
Who can receive the vaccine?
Dogs and cats from three months of age can be vaccinated, as long as they are healthy. Sick animals or pregnant females should not receive the dose, according to the campaign guidelines.
Rabies vaccination is a preventive measure against rabies, a viral disease that can affect animals and humans. The disease has a lethality rate close to 100% after the onset of symptoms.
Immunizing dogs and cats helps reduce the circulation of the virus and protect the population.
