Anvisa orders the seizure of Pygeum herbal medicine and prohibits the sale of the product under six brands due to lack of registration

The decision also covers products identified only as Pygeum and was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) this Friday (4).

According to the agency, advertising and the offer to sell the product without registration, notification or registration with Anvisa were proven.

According to the resolution, Pygeum was manufactured by an unknown company, without an identified CNPJ. Anvisa states that the marketing and dissemination of the product without sanitary regularization are in disagreement with Law No. 6,360/1976.

With the decision, all stages related to the product are prohibited: storage, marketing, distribution, manufacturing, advertising, transportation and use. Anvisa also ordered its seizure.

The agency established that the inspection measures apply to any natural or legal persons and media outlets involved.
