Even if, the four are quick to point out, "we are not starting from scratch": minimum wage, equal leave, reduction of working hours with equal pay and now a common proposal on energy are already building blocks of the alternative they are trying to build. The mission of the next few weeks is to bring them together, while trying to keep away the stone guest: the primaries. "We decide, we participate, we change", reads the Terra! slogan. But the audience will remind the leaders that sooner or later they will really have to decide.
From the audience a shout comes out in Roman dialect: "Hurry up!". Bonelli quickly gathers: "I agree, let's hurry." Then he returns to the mantra of the evening: Italians are not interested in "a personalistic dispute" over leadership, but "what answers do we give to the country". The four find themselves in front of a friendly audience after the less than successful debut in Naples, the failed encore in Padua and Cernobbio, where the entrepreneurs were much more generous with Giorgia Meloni. In between, a summer of vetoes, counter-vetoes, all-names and possible federators. This time we try to demonstrate that behind the photo - as usual - there are also contents. And above all a calendar. "The internal journey of the 5 Star Movement ends on 20 September, "we start the next day", announces Fratoianni, anticipating the early October horizon indicated by Conte. Bonelli widens the table: October will be the month of consultations with social forces. On leadership, however, the calendar remains blank. "If there will be primaries we will all decide it together", Fratoianni cuts short. First comes the program and whoever leads the coalition, he insists, must be its guarantor, not "the boss". But before choosing the driver you need to understand who will get on the train. And here the name is Matteo Renzi. Conte continues to not see him favorably in the wide field, despite noting that Schlein "has now involved him" and ensuring that he "is not working against anyone". Fratoianni does not pronounce a veto, but presents the bill: Renzian's time in government "has done things that have weakened a part of this country's society. And this is something that weighs heavily". Then he sets the criterion: "The problem is not the faces, the problem is the political ideas." And it is precisely on contents that we try to accelerate. Bonelli announces a Pd-M5s-Avs bill to cut the cost of energy "by at least 30%" for families and businesses. Schlein insists on wages and precariousness, Fratoianni returns to the tax on the super rich: it is not "a crazy proposal", he says, but "something common sense and necessary".
On Gaza we converge with the double request to the government to join the countries that want to ban the trade of products from the illegal Israeli colonies in the West Bank and to take sides to stop the EU-Israel treaty. The advance of the AfD in Germany also compacts the stage, with the European People's Party accused of paving the way for the far right "by chasing it". It is when we get to Ukraine that the ground becomes more slippery. Fratoianni assures that "all the conditions exist" to find a synthesis, starting from a fixed point: "Ukraine is attacked and Russia is the aggressor". But on weapons he invokes "elements of discontinuity" and does not hide the fact that the common formula has yet to be found. "If I already had the answer I would say that we have already found it. Since I don't have it, I'm saying that we will find it."
