102 years and 4 months prison sentence for Seçil Erzan was overturned, retrial

The 22nd Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice completed its appeal review regarding the 102 years and 4 months prison sentence given to Seçil Erzan by the Istanbul 41st High Criminal Court for the crimes of 'qualified fraud' and 'forgery of private documents'. The chamber found the appeal applications appropriate, stating that the first instance court did not include information about the combined files when making a decision, which made the audit difficult. Noting that some procedural provisions were not implemented during the trial process, the chamber ruled that the decision be overturned. It was decided to send the file to the local court for retrial. Erzan appeared before the judge again today after the decision against him was overturned by the court of appeal. The hearing was held at the Istanbul 29th High Criminal Court. Detainee Seçil Erzan was brought to the court from her prison.

'I DID NOT SET UP A SYSTEM'

Defending her, Seçil Erzan said, "Nothing I said for 3 years was taken into consideration, decisions were always made against me. In the court where I was tried before, only my statements by the prosecutor's office were taken as basis, on the grounds that there was a contradiction between the statements I gave at the prosecutor's office and my other statements. I could not get sufficient legal support, I testified with guidance. That morning, I turned off my phone and was on leave. I went to Çorlu. I was not myself, I could not answer my phone. There were people knocking on my door, trying to get money from me. That day, I was beaten in front of my mother's eyes and I gave bills. I didn't owe anyone money, but I became indebted. I went to the prosecutor and tried to explain everything, but what I said was taken out of context. "The bank lawyer said, 'There is pressure from above, you are being arrested.' That day, under fear and pressure, I told everyone that there was funding. I didn't set up a system. I do not have a behavior that can be concretized with the promise of high interest rates. If Arda Turan gets a single penny from me, punish me. He got back the money he gave me within 15 days. I had no intention of subverting anyone's will. I couldn't pay my friends back. "I sold all my mother's and father's assets," he said.

The court decided to continue the detention of the detained defendant Seçil Erzan. The hearing was postponed to a later date.
