Zelensky calls for tougher sanctions after Russian attacks

After attacks on Zaporizhia and other cities, Zelensky warns: “Russia is escalating every day.” He also confirms Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian targets.

Kyiv. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyj, Russian air strikes on Ukraine have once again caused deaths and injuries. Two people were killed in the large city of Zaporizhzhia, the Ukrainian president wrote on social networks. There were 14 injuries across the country. He also reported attacks on Kiev and the Odessa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Mykolaiv and Vinnytsia regions.

“It is important that our partners do not forget: Russia is escalating every day,” he said. That is why tougher sanctions from the USA and the EU are necessary. Zelensky confirmed Ukrainian drone strikes on the Ilski refinery in the southern Russian Krasnodar Territory and a defense factory in the Rostov Region.

On Friday, seven people were killed and 59 injured in Russian drone attacks on the capital Kiev. Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened even harsher blows against Ukraine during an appearance in St. Petersburg. He portrayed this as a response to a major Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow on the day of the Russian parliamentary election.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a large-scale Russian invasion since February 2022.
