September will be a record month for petrol stations - petrol and diesel are more expensive than ever

September will be by far the most expensive month to refuel so far. This will already be certain before the end of the month, as shown by data from the ADAC, which the German Press Agency evaluated. Even if petrol and diesel were given away on the last day of the month, the monthly average would remain above the previous records from August and April.

If the price remains within normal patterns at the end of the month, a price in the range of 2.27 euros can be expected for premium gasoline of the E10 variety, and a price in the range of 2.38 to 2.39 euros for diesel. According to the ADAC, the previous record values ​​are 2.145 euros for E10 and 2.263 euros for diesel - more than 10 cents lower in each case.

The main driver of the high prices is the Iran War, which has massively restricted oil exports from the Gulf region. A lack of refinery capacity also plays a role. Fuel prices are likely to fall in October. The new fuel discount will apply from Thursday, reducing the tax burden per liter of diesel or petrol by almost 17 cents.
