Expert report of the ship accident off the coast of Silivri reveals personnel and technical problems

The expert report of the ship accident off the coast of Silivri contains important information.

The statements made immediately after the accident were that Alsu caused the ship named Tuğberk İmamoğlu to sink and that he performed a series of dangerous maneuvers despite the warning.

The first expert report prepared shows that both ships had problems with personnel and navigational equipment and that the accident was almost inevitable.

The development of the accident was summarized in the report as follows;

- Murat Evciman was on duty as the 3rd Captain on the Alsu ship at the time of the accident. This duty was Evciman's first watch duty on this ship. Evciman did not recognize the navigational devices on the ship.

- There was a trainee spotter on duty on the Alsu ship at 03.10. Meanwhile, all the personnel, including the captain, were sleeping.

- Captain Ahmet Eraslan was also sleeping and woke up around 03.20 and tried to understand the situation.

The expert report also included the maneuvers of the two ships before the accident.

The minute-by-minute development of the maneuvers was described in the report as follows:

- Shortly before the accident, at around 03.08, the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship was not sending AIS data. This device is known as an automatic identification system and reports the ship's route to surrounding ships. Since the İmamoğlu ship did not send this data, it became invisible and unrecognizable to surrounding ships.

- 5 minutes before the accident, that is, between 03.08 and 03.09, 3rd Captain Evciman on the Alsu ship contacted the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship. Tuğberk İmamoğlu asked Alsu to "run to the pier", that is, to steer to the left.

- Upon this request, Alsu started to turn his route towards his left.

-Tuğberk İmamoğlu disappeared from the ECDIS system while Alsu was changing his route. This system, known as the Electronic Map Display and Information System, is used instead of maps.
