Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 8 Detainees in Kozinoğlu Death Investigation

The investigation launched by the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the death of former MİT officer Kozinoğlu, who died in Silivri Prison in 2011, for the crimes of "deliberate murder", "establishing, leading and being a member of an organization for the purpose of committing a crime" and "opposition to law no. 2937" continues.

As part of the investigation, actor Emin Olcay, who played the character "Ömer Baba" in the TV series Kurtlar Vadisi, came to Silivri Courthouse to testify as a "witness".

FIRST STATEMENT AFTER THE STATEMENT

After completing his statement, Olcay made a statement to the press at the exit of the courthouse and said, "I told what I saw and what I knew. We have brave men that our country has lost. WHAT HAPPENED?

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek made a statement on his NSosyal account regarding the investigation into the death of former MİT officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu, who died in Silivri Prison in 2011.

Reminding that Kozinoğlu became ill in Silivri No. 1 L Type Closed Penitentiary Institution, where he was detained, on November 12, 2011, and was transferred to Silivri State Hospital, Gürlek said, "It was determined that he had died when he was taken to the hospital. In the investigation carried out after the incident, camera records and medical documents were examined, witness statements were taken from the penal institution, gendarmerie and medical staff, his ward mates and the deceased's wife, and on April 10, "It was decided in 2012 that there was no need for prosecution." He used the following expressions.

Minister Gürlek stated that the file was re-examined by the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department and noted the following: "In light of the evaluations made by our Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the decision of non-prosecution was lifted with the decision of the Silivri Criminal Judgeship of Peace dated 26 August 2026 and the investigation was restarted. Within the scope of the new investigation, a confidentiality decision was taken, a special investigation team was formed and comprehensive studies were initiated to re-clarify the incident in all its aspects. At today's stage, our Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has investigated the incident." "Judicial proceedings were initiated against 11 suspects working in the penal institution, 10 suspects were detained, and 1 suspect was found to be abroad as a FETO fugitive."

One of the 10 suspects taken into custody was arrested, and 9 of them were released, 7 of them on condition of judicial control. During the work carried out within the scope of the investigation, 9 more suspects, including 1 reporter, 1 cameraman and 7 healthcare workers, were detained. The suspects, whose procedures at the police station were completed, were sent to the courthouse.

Three suspects, including a reporter, whose statements were taken by the prosecutor's office, were referred to the judgeship with the request of their arrest, 3 suspects, including the cameraman, with the request of "ban on going abroad" and "signing", and the other 3 suspects were referred to the judgeship with the request of judicial control in the form of "ban on going abroad".

The judgeship decided to arrest 3 suspects, including the reporter, and to impose judicial control measures on 6 suspects, including the cameraman.

Upon the request of the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the burial process was carried out within the scope of the decision taken to determine the exact cause of Kozinoğlu's death and whether there was any third party intervention in his death.

Within the scope of the investigation, the scriptwriters of the Kurtlar Vadisi series, Raci Şaşmaz, Bahadır Özdener and Cüneyt Aysan, testified to the prosecutor's office as "informed". The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office decided to examine the Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu series.

Within the scope of the investigation, Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor Ali İşgören, who was on duty at the time of the incident, prison prosecutor Necip Doğan, and Kozinoğlu's cellmates, retired marine captain Hasan Ataman Yıldırım and gendarmerie colonel Hasan Atilla Uğur, were also detained.

The judgeship, which decided to arrest Doğan and İşgören, who were referred to Silivri Courthouse, ordered a judicial control measure in the form of house arrest for the suspects Ataman and Uğur.

During the ongoing investigations, former journalist Osman Arslan, ambulance driver Süleyman Kaba, then prison warden Ömer Vatan and then shift chief Kazım Beyke were also detained.

It was decided to release ambulance driver Kaba, who was detained within the scope of the investigation, after his statement to the gendarmerie, taking into account the current state of evidence.

The judgeship decided to arrest Arslan for the crimes of "being a member of an organization established for the purpose of committing a crime" and "disclosing prohibited information for the purpose of political or military espionage", and to impose a judicial control measure in the form of a "ban on traveling abroad" against Vatan and Beyke.

Enver Altaylı, whose statement could not be taken as a suspect due to health problems within the scope of the investigation and who was convicted in the case in which he was tried within the scope of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), was also brought to Silivri Courthouse today to take his statement.

Suspect Altaylı, whose statement to the prosecutor's office was completed, was referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest on the charge of "intentional incitement to murder". The judgeship decided to arrest Enver Altaylı.
