Singh Struck Off Roll of Advocates Amidst Public Fatigue Over Long-Standing Saga

Singh, 50, was struck off the roll of advocates and solicitors in a disciplinary hearing on Thursday, a decision that political analysts say reflects the hardline stance of the country’s legal system against dishonesty.

On the political front, after years of parliamentary scrutiny, a court conviction and an internal challenge within the WP, the public has already formed its opinion of Singh, with the latest ruling by the Law Society not expected to sway sentiment, according to the analysts.

Singh was convicted of lying to a parliamentary committee looking into falsehoods former WP MP Raeesah Khan told in parliament in August 2021 about escorting a sexual abuse survivor to a police station.

Mustafa Izzuddin, a senior international affairs analyst at Solaris Strategies Singapore, said the strike-off would have “minuscule and negligible” impact on Singh’s political standing.

“As there is discernible political fatigue among the domestic populace, Singaporeans would have largely moved on from this long-drawn-out saga,” he said.
