The biathlon star on the uncertain future after the bike change

As SVT Sport previously reported, the biathlon star, who has five World Cup golds and one Olympic dito on his track record, has signed a five-month contract with the cycling team Decathlon-CMA CGM.

He is currently competing in the four-day Tour du Limousin in France, where he is in 96th place out of 116 participants at the halfway point.

Took Olympic gold last winter

However, he has received a lot of praise at the start of the race, spending a lot of time at the front of the pack.

And Jacquelin, who last winter won Olympic gold in the relay with his France and also took bronze in the pursuit start, enjoys his new sport.

Uncertain future

Most people have believed that Jacquelin's switch to cycling was temporary, and he himself has said that he was looking towards the Olympics in the French Alps in 2030. But now it seems uncertain whether he will continue to compete in biathlon.

- In March, during the last competition of the World Cup, I knew that I was going to embark on something that had been close to my heart for a long time and I knew that there was a possibility that it would be my last biathlon race, he says, and continues:

- That's why the tears flowed when I stood on the podium. Today, I still can't say anything for sure. Of course, the 2030 Olympics are in the back of my mind.

- If I come back, it's because I'm 100 percent, have a will to win titles and a motivation like a 20-year-old. But if I don't feel that, I don't want to go back just for biathlon, but if I don't have the motivation, I might as well give the opportunity to a younger athlete who will give everything.

The French national team has set a deadline of the end of August, where Jacquelin must decide whether to return to the national team.

- I still can't say if I will come back, or when. I really want to implement this and trust my gut, which will tell me what is the right choice and what motivates me.
