Final votes are counted in the election - the opposition leads

The remaining votes consist of early and foreign votes received late, which will be counted during Wednesday and Thursday in 314 different electoral districts across the country. Rarely have they played such a big role as now.

The votes counted so far have given the opposition parties a lead of just over 33,000 votes, which, if the results stand, would give them a narrow parliamentary majority of two seats.

Then it's done

The numbers from Wednesday's count tick in continuously throughout Wednesday, but a final result is not expected until Thursday.

- If the gap narrows significantly, we will need to get every single vote in before we can draw conclusions about the result. But if the gap between the blocs increases significantly during the day, we will probably be able to determine during the evening how it ends, says SVT's election reporter Fouad Youcefi.
