On April 2, 2024, the prosecutor's office in Przemyśl initiated an investigation into the murder of Sobol in the Gaza Strip as a result of an attack by the Israeli armed forces using explosives. In April this year the prosecutor's office extended the investigation until October 2 and informed that it was waiting for the implementation of requests for international legal assistance from the US and Israel.

Israel discontinued the proceedings regarding the shelling of the convoy

On Wednesday, the Israeli prosecutor's office announced the decision of the Israeli military authorities to discontinue the investigation into the shelling of a convoy of volunteers from the World Central Kitchen in the Gaza Strip.

Reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The circumstances should be fully explained

On Thursday, in a post on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the ministry received this information "with great disappointment."

"In connection with this decision, the Israeli Ambassador in Warsaw was summoned to the Ministry. The Polish side provided a critical assessment of the actions taken so far to explain the causes and course of the tragedy, informed that the investigation into this matter is being conducted in parallel by the District Prosecutor's Office in Przemyśl and expressed the expectation that the Israeli side will provide the competent Polish authorities with all the necessary explanations and materials requested by the Polish investigators," we read in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the ministry, "the circumstances in which the tragedy occurred in 2024 should be fully explained." "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not accept the perpetrators' avoidance of legal and moral responsibility. The families deserve adequate compensation," it added.

Seven volunteers were killed during the attack on the convoy. In addition to the Pole, the fatalities also included British citizens, an Australian, one person with American and Canadian citizenship, and a Palestinian driver. Following the attack, World Central Kitchen suspended its operations in the region.

The volunteers killed in the Israeli attack were delivering food aid from a ship that had arrived from Cyprus to the Gaza Strip a few hours earlier.
