Samu rescuers are filmed welcoming parents after the death of a girl in an accident in Paraná

Camila Canolla and Leonardo Zangari, rescuers from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) for around 10 years, were filmed welcoming the parents of a seven-year-old girl who died in a car accident in Marialva, in the North of Paraná. The girl's death was confirmed after several resuscitation attempts.

In the images of the incident, recorded on Sunday (30), the professionals appear sitting, hugging and calming the victim's parents. See video above.

According to them, the decision to comfort family members was natural and with the aim of trying to ease the family's pain.

"I ended up approaching the mother because she was a woman, even because of this mother's empathy, and Leonardo approached the father, but it was something simultaneous. Even though we are a team, at this moment, we hadn't agreed [...] It's impossible not to put yourself in someone else's shoes with so much suffering", explained Camila.

To serve the public, the rescuers' corporation offers technical preparation, but, according to the professionals, the maturity to deal with patients' emotions is acquired throughout work experiences. "There's no way to say that you're trained in empathy, it's something that comes from you", says Camilla.

The post-occurrence

At the time of care, professionals report that they deal with the situation "automatically", following trained procedures. But after it happens, it's hard not to get emotional.

"We end up turning on the automatic at that moment and we do our best to try to save that life, regardless of whether it's a child or an adult. And the aftermath, it's a shock. There's no way we can't get emotional. Because you remember that whole situation, you remember those parents, that family that is going through it", says Leonardo.

The rescuers say they were scared by the repercussions of the case, as welcoming victims is a normal procedure in the profession. "What happened was supposed to be common. [...] Maybe today people have cooled down and don't have that much empathy anymore", says Camila.

RPC, a TV Globo affiliate in Paraná, found that father and daughter were in the car at the time of the accident. They were passing along a dirt road, in the rural area of ​​Marialva. The man reported that the vehicle skidded, rolled over and both were ejected.

The first care the girl received was from a nurse who was passing by. Then, Samu arrived at the address, which is difficult to access, with a helicopter and ambulance.

The Military Police (PM-PR) also recorded the incident and carried out a breathalyzer test on the father, who did not identify alcohol consumption.
