Murder suspect in Picos, Piauí, is arrested after confessing to crime

The man identified by the initials W. A. ​​D. J. O., arrested on suspicion of killing a person found tied up and wrapped in sheets in a forested area of ​​Picos, in the south of Piauí, was already being investigated for a homicide in Teresina. The information was confirmed by delegate Robianne Nunes, from the Piauí Civil Police.

According to police, the crime took place on Saturday (5), in the house where the suspect lived. The victim's body was found on Monday morning (7), in a wooded area in another part of the city. The suspect was located on Monday afternoon.

After being located, the man told police officers that he stabbed the victim after she allegedly advanced on his companion. The body also showed signs of burns and was partially charred.

To g1, delegate Robianne Nunes informed that the man is also suspected of involvement in two attempted murders recorded in Picos. In one of the cases, he was arrested in the act.

"This boy is from Teresina. In Teresina, he is already responsible for murder and robbery. He was in the semi-open prison and came to Picos a few months ago. Here in Picos, he has already been involved in two attempted murders, in less than a month. In both cases we represented his preventive detention, and in the last case he was arrested in the act and presented, but was released on provisional release", he began.

"Now, he committed this third crime, which was a completed homicide and also the crime of trying to dispose of the body", added the delegate.

The suspect will undergo a custody hearing this Tuesday (8).

The crime

The arrest took place after the Picos Military Police Operations Center (COPOM) received, around 1 pm, information that a man armed with a knife was circulating in the Altamira neighborhood.

According to the Military Police, the man asked residents of the region for water and food before returning to a forested area. He was located by police under a tree.

During the approach, the suspect confessed to the crime and told the police the house where the body had allegedly been burned.

In a statement to the Civil Police, the man stated that he was at home with his partner and the victim. According to him, the attack occurred after the victim tried to attack the woman.

"He said that he was with the victim and his partner, all crack users. They were using it and then, at a certain point, the victim wanted to be with this woman, but she refused, and he insisted. According to the suspect's report, he [victim] went after her, and then the suspect attacked the victim and they got into a physical fight and he stabbed the victim a few times," said the delegate.

The delegate also reported that the suspect tried to burn the victim's body twice in the backyard of the residence. As he was unable to dispose of the corpse, he abandoned the body in another location.

"Afterwards, in an attempt to get rid of the body, he burned the body twice, but was unable to get rid of it. He burned the body in the backyard of the residence. He showed the place and the team went there and it was consistent with the report he gave. There were even pieces of the fabric he used there, which was a net", concluded the delegate.

The suspect's companion was not located after the crime and is considered a fugitive, according to the delegate.
