In order to establish clear title and lessen property disputes, the Central Government's SVAMITVA program employs drone technology to scan rural residential areas and issue official property cards to property owners. The SVAMITVA scheme is changing the way rural properties are decumented in India. This will be easy for the rural people to get the property cards and avoid disputes over properties. The modern drone technology will create an accurate map of inhabited village areas.
Use of drone technology
This is one of the most amazing features that comes under the SVAMITVA scheme, which is the use of drone based technology to map the properties in rural inhibited areas. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has collaborated with Survey of India and state governements to use drones along with Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) technology foe generating to generate highly accurate and GIS based maps. This technology will help the survey teams to maintain property boundaries with high accuracy. This will also help to create a detailed maps of houses, plots and roads to avoid the encroachment. Additionally, this will ensure the transparency in ground verification and dispute settlement. According to data that is currently available to the Ministry, 11,147 loans totaling Rs 1,713 crore have been granted using SVAMITVA property cards.
Property ownership records
The main goal of SVAMITVA scheme is to give rural property owners formal property cards or maintain the records of rights. These records will provide information on the property ownership and this will also build the trustworthy database of residential properties. This process includes the ground verification of the property and resolve property related disputes. Peoplw would be able to take their property details and the boundaries will be verified locally before finalizing the property records. This process will also bring the transparency and reduce the land disputes and conflicts.

Other important information
The SVAMITVA scheme is shared with the respective state governmentts and it is being used through Gram Manchitra, GIS based spatial planning application developed by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. This will enable Gram Panchayats to view a wide range of village level geospatial information on digitak maps that includes residential properties, lands, roads and public infrastructure, water bodies, natural resources and other community assets. This will help the local authorities to identify the infrastructure gaps, prioritize the development projects, plan the creation of public assets and this will also help them to monitor ongoing works and coordinate resources availab;le under the different government schemes. Gram Manchitra is aimed at strengthing decentralized planning, improving transparency and Gram Panchayat would also be able to take more informed decisions, which will be helpful for rural development. The SVAMITVA Scheme covers eligible rural inhabited, or abadi, areas of villages identified under the programme. So far, drone-based surveys have been completed in 3.30 lakh villages. Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, provided this information in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on August 5, 2026.
