Turning point in the murder of Melissa Echevarria: the Tunisian confesses to the strangulation

The investigation into the death of 40-year-old Argentinian Melissa Echevarria, found lifeless on 14 August in a courtyard in Via La Farina, in Messina, may have reached a decisive turning point.

The detail emerged later

If, in fact, the investigators initially ruled out violent death, it later emerged that the victim had been strangled, a detail that had not been verified initially due to the advanced state of decomposition of the woman's body. The Police, still as part of the investigation, also managed to trace the last person to have had contact with the victim. It appears to be a Tunisian man, who in the meantime had been arrested for other reasons, and who later confessed to the crime which was committed at the height of an argument between the two.

The murderer in prison for mistreating his wife

The 44-year-old Tunisian accused of the murder of the 40-year-old Argentinian in Messina was in prison because he had been arrested a week ago by the police for mistreating his wife. The man has several criminal proceedings pending for mistreatment of family members or cohabitants, personal injury and violation of the ban on approaching the offended person. When Melissa Echevarria's body was found, the police had hypothesized that the woman was not alone at the time of her death and that whoever could have helped her had run away. Doubts that remained and which the mobile team, coordinated by the Messina Prosecutor's Office, continued to investigate. It is not excluded that we could decide to have further tests carried out on the victim's body which rests in the Lipari cemetery where she was buried.
