Poorly displayed prices, irregular quotes… “Failure” noted among more than 400 doctors, dentists and group practices

A vast control campaign carried out between 2025 and 2026 revealed shortcomings in the display of prices, quotes and price transparency.

Quick Look

The DGCCRF sanctioned numerous self-employed caregivers after finding that 39% of the 1,100 practices inspected did not comply with patient information obligations, particularly regarding prices, quotes and agreements.

Why It Matters

The DGCCRF regularly carries out campaigns to protect consumers from opaque pricing practices in the medical sector.

Patients poorly informed about the prices of care, their reimbursement, non-compliant quotes: among 1,100 private caregivers and collective practices recently inspected following reports, 39% did not respect their obligations to inform the patient, indicates Monday October 12, 2026 the DGCCRF on its site. Between 2025 and 2026, the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control carried out a vast campaign of controls to verify the “fairness of the display of prices and mandatory information” in practices, and, among dentists, the “submission of the standardized quote” or compliance with the conditions of the “100% health” offer.

These caregivers were targeted based on reports received on the SignalConso site or sent by professional orders or Health Insurance. Out of 525 dental surgeons inspected, 189 were the subject of injunctions aimed at bringing them into compliance and around thirty were sanctioned (criminal report or administrative fine), specifies the DGCCRF in a publication revealed by Libération. More than half (52%) of the dentists inspected did not comply with the obligation to “display prices” in the waiting room or “information on the agreement” with Health Insurance, which determines the level of reimbursement.

A quarter had not issued the obligatory quotes or traceability documents on crowns and implants, or had provided non-compliant documents including inaccuracies “on the origin of prostheses” sometimes incorrectly reported “Origin France”. More rarely, dentists have “solicited relatives to post favorable opinions on the internet”. Among 300 doctors checked, around a hundred “should receive corrective action and around ten of them” a sanction, indicates the DGCCRF.

Doctors must normally display various information in the waiting room and at the place of payment (conventional status, prices for a list of services, standard sentence relating to excess fees, etc.). More than half of the doctors checked on this point presented “at least one violation”.

The DGCCRF notes that an imaging center “led patients to think that they were going to consult doctors approved in sector 1, while three quarters were overcharging” and was fined 150,000 euros. Investigators also observed illegal practices in certain collective practice structures (dental, radiological centers, etc.), “consisting of charging for simple access” or administrative costs. At the end of the checks, almost 90% of the shortcomings were corrected, adds the DGCCRF. As of October 1, 2026, “the total amount of administrative fines imposed amounted to more than 130,000 euros”.

Open Questions

  • ?What will be the long-term consequences for patient confidence?
  • ?Will the number of reports via SignalConso increase?
