Heavy rains in Thailand, 8 deaths, public holiday declared in Bangkok

Heavy rains negatively affect life in Thailand. According to data from Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), more than 545 thousand people were affected by heavy rains in 25 provinces across the country, while 8 people lost their lives due to floods in the last 10 days. In the statement made by DDPM, it was reported that approximately 52 thousand households were affected by the flood in the capital Bangkok, where 50 districts were declared a disaster area, and approximately 5 thousand people were evacuated to shelter centers due to the flood. Tomorrow and Tuesday were declared public holidays in the capital Bangkok.

THAILAND PRIME MINISTER VISITED DISASTER AREAS

Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Anutin Charnvirakul visited some disaster areas heavily affected by floods in Bangkok today. In his press release, Prime Minister Anutin stated that the government is trying to help citizens affected by the flood with all its resources, but the priority is those with life-threatening conditions.

During the Prime Minister's visit, some citizens reacted by stating that the government's work was insufficient.

THAILAND ARMY JOINED RELIEF EFFORTS

Army forces, which are carrying out search and rescue and aid efforts due to the ongoing heavy monsoon rains throughout the country and the damage they cause, also participated in the work in Bangkok. It was seen that military personnel helped transport citizens with trucks and military boats and distribute food and water to homes in difficult conditions.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said that if the rains stop, water evacuation works will be accelerated, but due to the water coming from higher areas, it may take a few days for the water to be completely withdrawn in some areas of the city.
