Search and rescue ships of the Naval Forces Command, TCG Alemdar, TCG Işın and TCG Akın, came to the fore with their capabilities in recent maritime accidents.
According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent, TCG Alemdar stands out as the main rescue platform among the three ships, while TCG Işın and TCG Akın carry out multi-purpose rescue, backup, underwater search, diving, debris removal and submarine rescue operations support duties as rescue and backup ships.
TCG Alemdar rescue ship, the construction of which started on 21 December 2012, entered the inventory of the Naval Forces Command on 28 January 2017.
The ship, which is 90 meters long and 19 meters wide, has a displacement of 4 thousand 200 tons and can reach a speed of 18 knots.
The ship, which operates as a submarine rescue ship, has a stern area that can work with submarine personnel rescue systems.
The ship has external ventilation of submarines up to a depth of 600 meters, the ability to dive to a depth of 90 meters with air and mixed gas systems, and open sea backup.
In addition, the necessary integration was provided for the use of the atmospheric diving system and rescue bell in the Rescue and Underwater Command inventory, as well as the remote controlled underwater vehicles (ROV) and side scan sonar (YTS) devices in the rescue and backup ships inventory.
TCG Alemdar also has systems and devices that support its main mission functions, such as its hospital, helicopter platform, dynamic positioning system and sonar systems.
TCG Isin
TCG Işın was built in Istanbul with completely local and national resources and put into service in 2017. TCG Işın, a rescue and backup ship, is 68 meters long and 14 meters wide.
The ship can support rescue, backup, diving, underwater operations and medical support activities with its systems.
TCG Işın, whose main mission functions are to search for the submarine ship that has lost its ability to surface and rescue its personnel, can perform search and rescue missions up to a depth of 1000 meters.
TCG Işın, which can maintain position in difficult sea conditions with its dynamic positioning system, can enable the ship to be located safely in the required position during underwater search and rescue activities.
TCG Işın has the appropriate stern area and infrastructure for the use of the Atmospheric Diving System (ADS), remote controlled underwater vehicle (ROV) and rescue bell, which are in the inventory of the Turkish Navy and can work at a depth of 365 meters and are used by first-class diver and specially specialized personnel.
In addition, TCG Işın can dive with 3 divers to a depth of 90 meters with the Surface Replenishment Diving System (SİDS), which can maintain its position by anchoring at four points up to a depth of 600 meters.
TCG Işın stands out as a platform with the facilities and capabilities to perform radiological and biochemical examinations, damage control surgery, intensive care and pressure chamber treatment applications for personnel who have exited or been rescued from the submarine and need medical treatment.
TCG Akin
The main tasks of TCG Akın, which is 68 meters long and 14 meters wide, include search and rescue activities up to a depth of 1000 meters.
The Dynamic Positioning System on TCG Akın ensures the safe conduct of underwater operations by safely maintaining the ship's position in difficult sea conditions.
TCG Akın can also remain stable by anchoring at 4 points up to a depth of 600 meters, and high-tech systems are used for underwater exploration activities.
The remote-controlled underwater vehicle (ROV) on the ship can operate up to a depth of 1000 meters and carry a load of up to 135 kilograms.
TCG Akın, which can detect the locations of objects up to 1000 meters deep with side scanning sonar (YTS), can also scan the seabed in detail with the Multibeam Sounding System (ÇBİS) with a working depth of 3 thousand meters.
Atmospheric diving at 365 meters
The Atmospheric Diving System (ADS), used by first-class divers and specialized personnel, provides the opportunity to work up to a depth of 365 meters.
With the Surface Replenishment Diving System (SIDS) on the ship, 3 divers can dive at the same time to a depth of 90 meters.
The Fixed Pressure Chamber System on the ship can be pressurized to a depth of 82 meters. The system, which has a capacity of 9 personnel, can be used in the treatment of personnel exposed to diving illness. The submarine ventilation system has the capacity to provide external air support to 50 personnel at depths of up to 600 meters for at least 14 days.
TCG Akın, which stands out with its medical support capacity as well as rescue and underwater operations, has a health infrastructure where radiological and biochemical tests can be performed. Damage control surgery, intensive care and pressure chamber treatments can also be performed on the ship.
