Why It Matters
TEKNOFEST is an aviation, space and technology festival organized by the Ministry of Industry and Technology and the T3 Foundation. MYS Capsule Yavuz Team has won awards in both national and international competitions with its İDA projects.
Aviation, Space and Technology Festival (TEKNOFEST), organized by the Ministry of Industry and Technology and the T3 Foundation, with Anadolu Agency (AA) as the "Global Communication Partner", continues at Şanlıurfa GAP Airport.
Selçuk University MYS Capsule Yavuz Team, which came in second in the "Unmanned Marine Vehicle Competition" held at Gölcük Shipyard Command within the scope of the festival, took its place in the TEKNOFEST Southeast "Parade of Champions" with the rank it achieved.
MYS Capsule Yavuz Team Captain Beyza Akkoç told the AA reporter about the process they went through and her thoughts about TEKNOFEST Southeast.
Akkoç, a 4th year student of Selçuk University Computer Engineering, stated that the design, production, software and electronic infrastructure of the unmanned marine vehicle (UAV) they designed belongs entirely to their own team.
Emphasizing that they have achieved significant success abroad, Akkoç said, "In the past months, we came back as the world's first in the unmanned underwater competition in China. A month ago, we came second in the world in the unmanned water vehicle competition held in Norway. We came second in Türkiye in the TEKNOFEST competition held in Gölcük." he said.
Stating that they worked autonomously in the competition at TEKNOFEST Blue Homeland, Akkoç pointed out that they were one of the 5 teams among 30 teams that were able to complete the course and one of the 4 teams that fulfilled their duties autonomously.
Giving information about the vehicle's technical features and field performance, Akkoç said:
"Our vehicle escaped from the obstacles on its way to the target coordinates, thanks to lidar and camera equipment and sensor fusion, and went to the target. We needed color information for our last mission, the kamikaze engagement. We successfully completed our engagement by taking this data from the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and transferring it to the unmanned marine vehicle."
Expressing that they are very proud to exhibit their vehicles at the "Parade of Champions" in Şanlıurfa and to explain their projects to visitors and especially children, Akkoç stated that they have been going through very difficult roads for about two years.
Explaining that they worked with limited resources in Konya during the development process, Akkoç continued his words as follows:
"We produced our unmanned marine vehicle in Konya, a city without a sea. We developed this vehicle by sleeping in parks and creating various opportunities in places where there is no water. While testing our vehicle, we slept on the street or in the park for 5 days. We worked with our own means, under difficult conditions, from the sun to the cold of winter, until we created our data sets. Thank God, we are here today with our degrees."
Stating that, as a team, they have a vision for the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces and Naval Forces Command, Akkoç stated that they are currently in the R&D process and are making entrepreneurial plans for the future.
Stating that they discussed how they can benefit the country and the National Technology Move more, Akkoç said, "Hopefully, we will implement our current projects in the future. I would like to thank my family, who supported us from the beginning to the end, and my team, with whom we have become a family. If we are here today, it is thanks to the efforts of all of us." he said.
