Thand Ringqvist gets the probe assignment - this is happening now

On Thursday, the Riksdag held a Prime Ministerial vote on Magdalena Andersson (S). The S leader did not have sufficient basis to form a government, as more than half of the members of the Riksdag voted no.

On Monday, the Speaker gave the task of probing to Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist (C) to let her examine the conditions for a so-called center alternative.

Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist has commented on the assignment and says that she herself does not want to become prime minister, instead her focus is to "contribute to a solution to the government issue".

This is happening now:

● The C leader has until Monday 26 October to report back to the Speaker.

● Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist will invite all party leaders to talks.

● Norlén believes that by giving the C leader the task, it will move the government process forward, even if she does not succeed.

● When the next prime ministerial vote can take place is still unclear.

This is how government formation works:

● There is no limit to how many exploratory missions a speaker can issue.

● The Riksdag must vote on the Prime Minister proposed by the Speaker. The candidate does not need to have a majority behind him in the Riksdag. It is enough if fewer than 175 members vote no.

● The Speaker can conduct a maximum of four prime ministerial votes.

● If the fourth proposal is voted down, the Speaker must immediately decide on an additional election.

● If, on the other hand, the Riksdag has agreed on a candidate for prime minister, he can decide which ministers will form part of the government.

● A formal change of government takes place at a so-called succession council at the castle where the head of state is the chairman.
