Saudi Arabia transfer statement from Tijjani Reijnders

He made evaluations about the transfer of Tijjani Reijnders, who signed from the English Premier League team Manchester City to Al-Qadsiah, one of the Saudi Arabian teams, this summer. In an interview with Portuguese media NOS, Reijnders explained why he accepted the offer from Saudi Arabia.

Reijnders stated that he considered leaving after he was informed that he would continue to play in a different role in midfield at Manchester City and said, "I realized that things were going in that direction again at City and I started to question whether I wanted to continue like this for another season. To be honest, I said 'No'. I wanted to look at other clubs and then I received an answer from the club that this was possible."

Referring to his meeting with Al-Qadsiah coach Brendan Rodgers, the Dutch football player said, "He told me that I could play here for 3-4 years and then return to Europe. There are many examples of this. This is my goal, too."

Reijnders also added:

"You can always think about the moral aspect of this situation, but I think everyone would say yes to that. I don't want to work anymore after my career. It wasn't necessary to work after City, but now I can do good things for the generations after me. If my grandchildren can have a good life thanks to this choice, why wouldn't I do it?"

Previous news had stated that Tijjani Reijnders would earn a total fee of 80 million euros in the 4-year contract he signed with Al-Qadsiah. Al-Qadsiah paid £52 million to Manchester City for this transfer.
