Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing paid an official visit to Vietnam on September 4-6

General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly chaired the welcoming ceremony for Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Kyu Kyu Hla.

During the welcoming ceremony at the National Assembly this morning, General Secretary and President To Lam and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing held a flag-raising ceremony and inspected the Honor Guard of the Vietnam People's Army. The two leaders then began talks.

The President of Myanmar paid an official visit to Vietnam on September 4-6. This is his first visit to Vietnam after Myanmar completed the general election in January and established a new government, and is the highest-level exchange of delegations between the two sides since 2019.

Mr. Min Aung Hlaing, born in 1956, has been President of Myanmar since April. He has held many positions in the Myanmar army, and was Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in 2011-2016.

Vietnam and Myanmar established diplomatic relations on May 28, 1975, upgraded to Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership in August 2017.

Trade turnover between the two countries in the first 6 months of 2026 reached 336 million USD, an increase of 26% over the same period in 2025. Vietnam's main imported commodity groups include vegetables and fruits, rubber, electronic products and components, agricultural products and seafood. Vietnam exports main commodity groups including fertilizers, textile and garment raw materials, means of transport, and other machinery, equipment and spare parts.

Regarding investment, Vietnam has 107 valid investment projects in Myanmar with a total registered capital of more than 1.4 billion USD, ranking 5th out of 87 countries and territories in which Vietnam has invested capital abroad.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Nguyen Anh Duc said that President Min Aung Hlaing's visit will contribute to consolidating traditional friendship relations, enhancing political trust between the two countries, and promoting the expansion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
