TRE-PI prohibits propaganda by Tiago Junqueira for inducing voters to cancel their vote

The Regional Electoral Court of Piauí (TRE-PI) ordered the suspension of the broadcast of propaganda for the candidate for the Senate for Piauí Tiago Junqueira (PL). The decision is made on Sunday (27), and is motivated by the fact that, according to Federal Judge Rodrigo Pinheiro do Nascimento, the advertisement misleads voters by orienting them to vote twice on the candidate's number, which nullifies the second vote.

In the advertisement published by the campaign, the candidate asks voters to vote twice for his number for the two Senate seats. The decision says that the candidate and the coalition have 24 hours, counting from the subpoena, to suspend the resubmission of the video.

Renewal takes place alternately: in an election, two senators are chosen per state and the Federal District, renewing two thirds of the House. The suspension is ordered "[...] during free electoral hours, in radio and television blocks or insertions, as well as via the internet, the advertising piece identified in ID 22705473, as well as reproducing the guidance that the voter can assign two valid votes for the Federal Senate to the same candidate, including by simulating the operation of the electronic ballot box", determines the judge.

The judge also imposed a coercive fine of R$5,000 for each broadcast that fails to comply with the decision after the deadline.

He also ordered communication to the TV and radio stations responsible for generating free electoral hours in the State of Piauí to adopt measures regarding the advertising piece.

For the correct vote, the electronic ballot box will ask for the vote for senator twice. First, the voter enters the candidate's number, checks the photo and confirms. Then, the ballot box opens a second screen so that another candidate for the Senate can be chosen.
