During his final speech at the two-day Republican Party convention in Dallas, Donald Trump did not mince his words. The former US president encouraged supporters to take an oath that they would not only go to the polls themselves, but also take their family and friends with them.

I promise to the best president in history, who loves us to death, that (...) I will go and take my friends and family and we will go to vote on November 3, Trump said. Because you know what happens to those who don't vote? They go to hell, he added.

Trump not only mobilized voters, but also warned about "communists, radical left-wing lunatics, extremists, fanatics and criminals" who, in his opinion, want to destroy the country. In his own style, he announced that Republicans were ready to face them and "defeat communism."

Promises and controversies

During the speech, Trump repeated his earlier promise: if Republicans win the election, every adult American will receive $5,000. Such direct financial support was supposed to appear in his earlier proposals, but it was never implemented because they require the consent of a very skeptical Congress.

The convention in Dallas was the first event of this type before the midterm elections - previously, Republicans had organized such conventions only in presidential election years. Still, the event was almost entirely dominated by Donald Trump, who appealed to voters to "pretend it's him on the ballot."

Turnout and mood in the party

Turnout at the convention was moderate, and many candidates chose to focus on campaigning in their districts and opted out of the event. The reason was not only the high costs of participation ($25,000), but also Trump's record-low popularity ratings - according to research, less than 40 percent support him. voters, and the Ipsos poll for Reuters indicates even 32 percent.

Nevertheless, the atmosphere in Dallas was heated, and Trump himself did not hide that he counted on the full mobilization of his supporters. Before him, those who appeared on stage included: Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of President Donald Jr. and Vice President J.D. Vance, who remembered the deceased activist Charlie Kirk and appealed not to hand over power to Democrats.
