TSMC brings forward 1.4 nanometer chip production

Taiwan-based semiconductor giant TSMC announced that it has taken a big step in the technology world and accelerated the 1.4 nanometer (14A) production process. According to the latest information, the company aims to start trial production in April 2027 by moving the production of 1.4 nanometer, the most advanced chip technology, one year ahead of schedule.

The work carried out in its huge facilities in the city of Taichung reveals how quickly the Taiwanese manufacturer increases its capacity in order to maintain its leadership in the global market. With this strategic move, mass production is planned to start in the second half of 2027, and competition in the sector is expected to intensify significantly with this development.

Construction Process is Progressing Rapidly at Taichung Facilities

The project initiated by TSMC to create 1.4 nanometer production capacity continues at an intense pace in the technology park in Taichung. The steel skeleton structure of the first factory, the foundations of which were laid in October last year, has been completed.

The facility, which is currently undergoing wall and floor work, is expected to be completely completed in early 2025. This rapid progress proves the company's commitment to bringing next-generation chip technologies to market.

Preparations for the Second Factory Are Being Completed

In the P2 factory, which constitutes the second phase of the project, concrete foundation works were left behind and the steel construction phase was started. According to the data shared by the management, if the planned schedule is adhered to, the construction of this factory will be completed in October 2025. Thus, the first two factories will be ready for mass production at full capacity in October 2027.

Future Plans and Investment Strategy Are Taking Shape

Work on the third and fourth sections of the facility is still in its early stages. While TSMC obtained the necessary construction license for the third factory, it is carrying out the application processes for the fourth facility. The two factories in question are planned to be completed in 2028, with a six-month gap between them.

These facilities, which were implemented with a huge total budget of 49 billion dollars, create a critical infrastructure that will enable TSMC to maintain its position as the world's leading contract chip manufacturer for many years to come.
