While the Turkish economy has been accelerating since the second quarter of the year, exports play an important role in accelerating economic activity.

Exports are among the important factors that support employment as well as economic growth.

Despite the negative effects of the difficulties in the global economy and geopolitical risks on energy and raw material prices, the Turkish economy continues to progress steadily.

The trade diplomacy implemented by Türkiye also contributes to breaking records in exports.

The steps taken by the economic management to support exports through institutions also have an impact on Türkiye's exports.

According to the data compiled by the AA correspondent from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), Türkiye's exports increased by 8.1 percent in August compared to the same period last year, reaching 23.5 billion dollars.

The foreign sales of Istanbul, which is the locomotive of Türkiye's exports, have also accelerated.

While Istanbul companies achieved the highest August export of all time with 8.8 billion dollars, Istanbul's foreign sales increased by 11.6 percent compared to the same period last year. Thus, the city realized 37.5 percent of Türkiye's total exports.

Istanbul maintained its top place in Türkiye's exports. During this period, Istanbul was followed by Kocaeli with 1 billion 711.8 million dollars, Ankara with 1 billion 346.6 million dollars, Bursa with 1 billion 238.7 million dollars and Izmir with 1 billion 190.2 million dollars.

The jewelery industry exported the most from Istanbul

When looked at on a sectoral basis, the jewelry sector made the most exports from Istanbul with approximately 1.5 billion dollars.

This sector was followed by chemicals and products with 1.4 billion dollars, ready-made clothing and apparel with 865.4 million dollars, electrical and electronics industry with 800.2 million dollars, and automotive industry with 700.5 million dollars.

Among the companies operating in Istanbul, the sector that increased its exports the most was the jewelry sector with 1.1 billion dollars.

In terms of export increase, this sector was followed by ferrous and non-ferrous metals with 62.9 million dollars, mining products with 60.8 million dollars, steel with 57.5 million dollars and electricity and electronics with 53 million dollars.

Ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector companies operating in Istanbul made exports of 613.6 million dollars, mining companies 206.3 million dollars, and steel sector companies 635 million dollars.

The highest demand for Istanbul products came from Switzerland

Exports worth 641.7 million dollars were made from the city to Germany, 536.6 million dollars to the USA, 412.2 million dollars to the United Kingdom and 387 million dollars to Spain.

Istanbul Exporters' Associations (İİB) Coordinator President Erkan Özkan, in his evaluation to the AA correspondent on the subject, stated that the increase in exports of Istanbul companies in August once again demonstrates the city's production and export power in different sectors.

Stating that it is very important for companies to maintain and improve their export performance despite the uncertainties and intense competition in global trade, Özkan said, "Istanbul continues to make a significant contribution to Türkiye's foreign trade with its strong companies operating in different sectors and its wide exporter network." he said.

Özkan pointed out that the increase in exports shows that companies continue to work on new markets while strengthening their positions in existing markets, and said, "I believe that value-added production, branding and market diversity will become even more important in terms of the sustainability of export growth in the coming period. We expect our Istanbul exporters to continue this strong performance in the remaining period of the year and increase their contribution to the Turkish economy." he said.

According to TİM data, the provinces with the most exports in August are as follows:
