Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia decide to hold an emergency meeting for the Mecca Defense Agreement

In the statement made by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was reported that an emergency meeting of the chiefs of staff of Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will be held to discuss ways to support Riyadh within the scope of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement. The statement came after the meeting held yesterday in New York between Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement on August 7 to strengthen collective deterrence and expand defense cooperation. The agreement includes that an attack on one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all of them.

Saudi Arabia announced yesterday that 6 ballistic missiles launched by Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen towards Taif and Yanbu were shot down by air defense systems. The Houthi militia also announced that they targeted a "sensitive target" in Riyadh and Saudi Aramco facilities in Yanbu with missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered the question about the future of the Mecca Defense Alliance in New York, where he was present for the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations. Erdoğan said, "If you are making such an important initiative in such a difficult geography, it is not surprising that you will encounter some tests. If you say something new, if you put forward a new will, of course there will be people who will be disturbed by it. We are not a state that was founded yesterday, we are a state that is experienced enough not to fall into provocations or fall into a trap. I have no doubt that we will move forward on our path stronger with the completion of institutionalization works." he said.

Stating that the foundations have been laid for a ground that will produce regional solutions to the problems of the region, Erdoğan said, "We have all seen together that those who come from outside and write security prescriptions for our region often leave behind more instability. Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Salih al-Fevzan pointed out that restoring security and stability in Yemen is one of the most important duties, and called on members of the army to be ready to fight with their lives against the Houthis.

Calling on members of the Saudi Arabian military to fulfill their duties patiently, Fevzan said, "You must always be ready to do your duty, listen to your superiors and field commanders, and carry out their orders with utmost precision." he said.

Fevzan said that it is the greatest duty to protect the country, to take position at its borders, to repel attacks against it and to punish those who want to touch even a centimeter of it, and gave the message that people sacrificed their lives to protect the country, especially because of the presence of holy places belonging to Muslims.
