U2 release new single 'Silencio' today and announce album 'Carnaval de Luz'

U2 return with a new single and do so in the year of their 50th anniversary: ​​today, Thursday 24 September 2026, at 6 pm, Silencio, the new song by the Irish band, will be released, already anticipated through a series of teasers released on the group's official channels.

The appointment is therefore set for 6pm today, when the song will finally be available for listening. The previews showed dark and nocturnal images but also linked to fun (between dance floors, stage and lights), building an atmosphere of anticipation around what represents the second single of the next album.

The new album after nine years

Silencio opens a new phase in U2's career and anticipates Carnaval de Luz, the band's sixteenth studio album. The album is expected in mid-November and will arrive nine years after Songs of Experience, released in 2017.

The new work is also part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the founding of U2, born in Dublin in 1976. The album is produced by Jacknife Lee, supported by historical collaborators of the band such as Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois and Steve Lillywhite.

Silencio arrives after Street of Dreams, the first single linked to the new recording project, and according to widespread previews it moves towards more electric and decidedly rock sounds.

In recent days, the official cover of the new album was also shown. In the image Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. are portrayed standing on a beach, in a composition that visually recalls the famous photograph of the Beatles on the Abbey Road zebra crossing.

The return of Larry Mullen Jr. takes on a particular significance also in the context of the new phase of the band: the historic drummer is back alongside Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton after the period of absence.

2027 could be the year of the new tour

The new songs should also be followed by an important live return. In fact, the program of celebrations for U2's 50th anniversary includes a world tour in 2027, although the complete calendar of dates has not yet been announced.

According to the previews circulated so far, the tour could start from South America and then arrive in European stadiums during the summer. Among the fans' expectations there is naturally also a possible return of the band to Italy.

For now, however, the next appointment is much closer: today, September 24, at 6 pm, when Silencio will be available and U2 will add a new chapter to their recording history.
